Site Assessments in Devon

Professional Pest Assessments for Homes, Farms and Businesses

We assess residential properties, farms, equestrian centres, smallholdings, warehouses, cafés and other commercial premises. Whether you require rat removal, mice removal, mole removal, wasp removal or help with another pest, we begin by looking carefully at the property and the surrounding area.

Why a Site Assessment Is Important

Effective pest control starts with correct identification. Treating the visible signs without understanding the cause can result in pests returning or the problem moving to another part of the property.

During a site assessment, we work to establish:

  • Which pest is present
  • Where it is living, nesting or travelling
  • How it is entering the property
  • What is attracting it to the site
  • How widespread the activity has become
  • Whether there are risks to people, animals, food or property
  • Which control method will offer the safest and most effective result
  • What can be done to reduce the likelihood of the pest returning

What Happens During Our Site Assessment?

  1. Discussing the Problem

We begin by asking what you have seen, heard or noticed. This may include droppings, scratching sounds, gnawing, damaged food packaging, molehills, insect activity or wasps entering and leaving the same area.

We will also ask when the problem began, where activity is most noticeable and whether any pest control has already been attempted. Even a small detail can help us identify patterns and narrow down the source of the problem.

For commercial and agricultural sites, we may also discuss working hours, livestock routines, feed storage, waste handling and areas where pest activity could affect hygiene or day-to-day operations.

  1. Inspecting the Property

We then carry out a careful visual inspection of the affected areas and any nearby places where pests may be living or gaining access. Depending on the property and the suspected pest, this may include checking:

  • Roof spaces and lofts
  • Wall cavities and accessible voids
  • Kitchens and food storage areas
  • Cupboards, storerooms and utility spaces
  • Garages, sheds and outbuildings
  • Barns, stables and animal housing
  • Feed stores and grain storage areas
  • Drains and pipework
  • Gardens, lawns, paddocks and field margins
  • Waste and recycling areas
  • Doors, windows, vents and gaps around services

We pay particular attention to quiet, sheltered areas where pests can remain undisturbed. On rural properties, we will also consider the surrounding land, nearby water, vegetation, livestock feed and neighbouring buildings.

Choosing the Best Control Method

Once we have identified the pest and assessed the site, we can decide on the most appropriate control method. The recommendation will depend on the species involved, the extent of the activity, the property layout and the surrounding conditions. Control may involve:

  • Professional trapping
  • Carefully managed baiting where appropriate
  • Targeted insecticidal treatment
  • Wasp or hornet nest treatment
  • Proofing vulnerable access points
  • Removing or reducing food and water sources
  • Improving waste or feed storage
  • Habitat and environmental management
  • Monitoring and follow-up visits
